Pacino Stars In New Mamet Play: Tickets, 6/6!

Producers Jeffrey Richards, Jerry Frankel, and Steve Traxler are pleased to announce that tickets for David Mamet’s new play CHINA DOLL, which stars Academy Award-winner Al Pacino, will go on sale starting Saturday, June 6, 2015.

The world premiere of CHINA DOLL will begin previews on October 21, 2015, with an official opening on November 19, 2015, at The Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre (236 West 45th Street).

Mr. Pacino will be joined on stage by Fran Kranz (You Can’t Take It With You, Death of a Salesman, “Dollhouse”), under the direction of Tony Award-winner Pam MacKinnon (The Heidi Chronicles, Edward Albee’s A Delicate Balance, Edward Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, Clybourne Park).

Tickets for CHINA DOLL will be available for purchase online at www.telecharge.com, or by calling (212) 239-6200.

The creative team will include scenic design by Tony Award-winner Derek McLane (33 Variations, Beautiful The Carol King Musical), lighting design by Russell H. Champa (In the Next Room (or the vibrator play)), and costume design by Tony Award-winner Jess Goldstein (The Rivals, Jersey Boys).

David Mamet is the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Glengarry Glen Ross. His other plays include Race, Oleanna, American Buffalo, Speed-the-Plow, November and Sexual Perversity in Chicago among others. Mr. Mamet is currently represented on the West End by a production of American Buffalo starring Damian Lewis, John Goodman, and Tom Sturridge, which began performances on April 16, 2015, at the Wyndham Theatre.

Al Pacino, who was last seen on Broadway portraying the role of Shelly Levene in Mamet’s acclaimed Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Glengarry Glen Ross and recently as Phil Spector in the HBO film written by David Mamet, is a two-time Tony Award-winner who also starred in the 1983 revival of American Buffalo. He is an Academy Award-winner, four-time Golden Globe-winner, and two-time Emmy Award-winner. CHINA DOLL will mark his twelfth time appearing on Broadway, including The Merchant of Venice, Salomé, Hughie, The Basic Training of Pavlo Hummel, Camino Real, and Does a Tiger Wear a Necktie among others.

Fran Kranz co-starred on Broadway this past year as Tony Kirby in You Can’t Take It With You opposite Rose Byrne and James Earl Jones, and was also seen in the recent Tony Award-winning Mike Nichols revival of Death of a Salesman. CHINA DOLL will be his first time originating a Broadway role.

CHINA DOLL will mark the tenth presentation of a David Mamet work by Jeffrey Richards, Jerry Frankel, and Steve Traxler on Broadway and the West End.

He served as Chair of Penn State University's Professional Advisory Board for the Corporate Communication major at Penn State Abington and on the Pennsylvania Bar Association's Judicial Selection Commission.

He received his MA degree from Rowan University and his BA from Villanova University. He has been named a Distinguished Alumnus of Rowan's public relations program and received the E. A. "Wally" Richter Leadership Award, the highest honor from the National Association of Bar Executives' Communications Section. He has also been honored by numerous other local, state and national groups.

In his hometown of Camden, Cirucci taught fifth grade at the Ulysses Wiggins Elementary School named for the founder of the Camden NAACP. There he was one of the first teachers in the country to teach African-American history to inner city students. He later served as editor of a local weekly newspaper, as Assistant to the Township Manager of Cherry Hill Township and as Associate Director of Communications at the New Jersey State Bar Association.

Cirucci's passions include politics, the popular culture, books and authors, art, communication, music, theatre, movies, dining and travel.
