Americans for Prosperity says it’s time for Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto (D-) to stop playing political games on the 2% arbitration cap.
“How Speaker Prieto can proclaim he’s the one standing up for taxpayers is beyond me,” averred AFP state director Daryn Iwicki. “It takes considerable chutzpah to act like you’re standing up for taxpayers while you’re working on the behalf of Big Labor special interests.”
“For years taxpayers have been the one with no one at the negotiation table. The 2% cap implemented in 2010 limiting interest arbitration awards finally provided local and county governments a tool to keep property taxes in check and now the Speaker wants to take it away.”
“The hypocrisy knows no bounds,” Iwicki continued.
“Taxpayers deserve better, alright. They deserve better than the political, self-serving games the Speaker is playing. If Speaker Prieto cares about New Jersey families who are stuck with the highest property taxes in the country, he will schedule a vote in the Assembly to accept the Governor’s conditional veto immediately.”
“Senate President Sweeney and all but one Senate Democrat accepted the CV. They gave in and did the right thing for taxpayer.”
“If Speaker Prieto doesn’t allow a vote and continues his belligerence, New Jersey taxpayers will know whose side he’s on—and it’s not theirs.”
