Mummers: Oh, The GLORIOUS Colors Of 2013

Philadelphia's Mummers Parade is THE New Years Day spectacle.
And it's also America's oldest continuing folk festival.
Thousands ordinary men, women and children march up Broad Street (the longest, straight city street on the world) in the most vivid, colorful costumes you'll ever see. The string bands, fancy and comic divisions flood the street with clowns, wenches, mimes, music and endless frivolity. And when we saw endless, we really mean it since the parade last ALL day and into the evening.
Thanks to Bev Volpe of Simon Public Relations we have these wonderful photos from this year's parade. We're ever so grateful to Bev for sharing -- and for giving us permission to use these incredible images.
If you've never been to a Mummers Parade, you've never been alive.

But, don't fret. If you missed this year's parade, the fabulous Philadelphia Mummers Show of Shows will be held Saturday, February 23 at historic Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ. See up close the prize winning performances and spectacular costumes of the String Bands from the comfort of your seat at beautiful Boardwalk Hall.
