Cherry Hill Leads Economic Trash Partnering Plan

Recently, Cherry Hill Mayor Bernie Platt elected officials from other Camden County towns to announce the results of an unprecedented joint bid for municipal trash-disposal services.
The effort has resulted in a savings of about $265,000 in one year for Cherry Hill and about $949,667 for the eight municipalities in total. Cherry Hill currently spends about $1.3 million per year to dispose of 21,000 tons of residential solid waste.
Officials announced the joint venture earlier this year; participating in the consortium were Cherry Hill, Voorhees, Haddon Township, Winslow, Merchantville, Collingswood, Somerdale and Gibbsboro.
This agreement is the largest of its kind in South Jersey.
“Throughout my tenure as Mayor of Cherry Hill, I’ve made a commitment to the residents of this township: that I would think progressively and do whatever was in my power to continue delivering high-quality services at the lowest possible price,” Platt said. “This deal does just that. In total, through shared-service agreements, we’ve saved the taxpayers of Cherry Hill roughly $675,000 on trash disposal and collection in the next year. I’m grateful to our partners in their effort for helping to make it a success.”
