Christie Signs, Conditionally Vetoes Bills

Yesterday, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie took action on several pieces of pending legislation, signing six bills and conditionally vetoing three, returning those measures to the Legislature for reconsideration with the Governor’s recommendations. Among the bills conditionally vetoed included A-444, which would require school board members to be held to the same standards of conduct as school employees.

In conditionally vetoing A-444, the Governor recommended changes to ensure that the bill’s purpose is appropriately achieved by eliminating discrepancies between the bill’s provisions for school board members and the existing statute governing school employee conduct. These changes include an additional grounds for disqualification of school board members in accordance with the recently enacted amendments to the anti-bullying law as well as providing for disqualification of school employees convicted of fourth degree crimes involving a minor victim.
Yesterday, the Governor also took action on the following legislation:

A-2920/S-2114 (Wolfe, Voss, Holzapfel, A.M. Bucco, Angelini/Ciesla, A.R. Bucco) – Directs the Department of Education to develop a school district dating violence policy and requires school districts to provide dating violence education in the health curriculum

A-3272/S-2433 (McKeon, Lampitt, Gusciora Barnes, Mainor/Van Drew, Addiego) – Allows municipalities to reexamine municipal master plan every 10 years

A-3722/SCS for S-2704/2693 (Coutinho, Spencer, Watson Coleman, DeCroce, Bramnick/Lesniak, Kyrillos, A.R. Bucco) – Revises provisions of “Franchise Practices Act” relating to motor vehicle franchises

A-2173/S-1361 (Vainieri Huttle, Stender/Buono, Greenstein) – CONDITIONAL -Requires Department of State to establish and maintain a website to provide a clearinghouse of information for nonprofits
