Doherty Lauds Christie On FTA Fight

New Jersey State Senator Michael Doherty, a member of the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee, issued the following statement regarding news that Governor Christie has retained outside counsel to fight the Federal Transportation Agency’s (FTA) unreasonable demand that New Jersey taxpayers pay for its failed project:
“I am deeply disturbed by the FTA’s unreasonable, capricious and arbitrary demand that New Jersey taxpayers pay it for a project doomed to fail. The FTA set in motion a chain of events that inevitably led to the correct decision by Governor Christie to stop throwing good money after bad.
“What is more disturbing than the FTA’s unreasonable demands is the deafening silence from our two U.S. Senators. A bipartisan coalition of New Jersey Congressmen is working in Washington to pressure the FTA to drop its unreasonable claim; yet our two Senators have once again abandoned their obligation to represent the people of this state.”
