Maine's Natural Beauty Capitivates Year Round

The Bush family compound at Walker's Point, Kennebunkport.

Maine is the only U.S. state to have a name that is one syllable long. Also, in bordering New Hampshire, it is the only state which borders exactly one other state.
So, Maine stands apart from the other states -- and not just in those two ways.
Maine's residents are known for their determined independence and their rugged individualism. And, they have to be hearty and determined to survive Maine's long winters.
Amidst it all, we found Mainers to be proud and friendly during our recent visit to Portland, Kennebunkport and other scenic areas of the state.
One of the things we enjoyed most was our lobster roll.
And no, a lobster roll is not lobster rolled into a log, like a pecan roll. Quite the opposite.
A lobster roll is a kind a sandwich filled with lobster meat. A traditional lobster roll contains the fresh cooked meat of a lobster, tossed with mayonnaise and served on a grilled hot dog bun or similar roll, so that the opening is on the top rather than on the side.
We enjoyed our lobster rolls at Alisson's in Kennebunkport.  Located in the heart of Kennebunkport's Dock Square, Alisson's Restaurant has become known to both locals and visitors as the place to experience casual excellence. And while Alisson's serves a varied menu, the place is known for its lobster rolls which have often been rated the best anywhere. We can attest to the fact that our lobster rolls were fantastic -- truly unforgettable. The roll could barely hold the big, tender chunks of lobster meat. No wonder Alisson's has been in business for more than 35 years.
At every turn, Maine delighted us with scenic wonders.
We hope you enjoy these photos.
